A Gummy smile treatment is the term used when someone smiles and the gums above the upper teeth become visible. Often this appears to be ‘over smiling’ and is treatable using a non invasive series of injectable treatments by Dr Jaskaren, if the patient also has a thin upper lip then a lip filler treatment can add volume to the lip which also reduces the appearance of a gummy smile.
How Does It Work?
After your consultation with Dr Jaskaren she will assess whether the gummy smile can be treated with Botulinum Toxin injections (in a small number of cases such as gingivectomy oral surgery may be required). If treatable, Dr Jaskaren injects a small amount of Botulinum Toxin both sides of the nostril to weaken the upper lip elevator muscles. This technique essentially weakens the muscle that is responsible for the elevation of the upper lip and reducing excess gum exposure.
